adoration, Op. 12
Inspired by my first love, this adoration for another expresses an unreciprocated but very real love. The lack of specificity in tempo allows for a variety of interpretations, and each performance should differ from any other as much as possible. A contemplative sonic poem that is both at once mournful and hopeful, the muffled sound of the piano lid silencing the strings provides an intimate and hushed sound. The constant holding of the pedal prevents any true 'pure' harmonic moments of arrival, because in this narrative, there is none.
